This album was mostly recorded in Watertown NY and Croghan NY. I did it at Fifth Dimension Records with Anthony Hirsch. He was producer and I threw in some ideas too, but a lot of the songs he would make more radio friendly, or more decorated. The album was my first attempt at the music world on my own. Prior to that I was writing in bands, original material, but not singing. I was very shy, I might of sang a cover or some backing vocals, but not too much. My staple of covers in Lake Effect Mud was singing Neil Young's "Rocking in a Free World."
I had shirts ordered and 300 copies of this CD for myself. I sell them by hand and give them as a "graduation" item present for people that "graduate" through an addiction program where I work on weekends. Some appreciate it. Some it's hard to know if they do or not since they have to face me at work as their supervision monitor. I look over them for 8 hours.
This album also streams online and is on youtube. My father's favorite song was "Nothing Like This" before he passed. My personal favorite used to be "Gem and Angelic Being" - played acoustically. Now, to listen to and personal favorite I would say probably "Rum and Coke" is a top favorite. Truth to that story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSWi0TlQX8M (parents)
After finishing the effort I got asked to be put on some SPOTIFY playlists and that started some catch.
The hard part about the music scene is Upstate people, some, most, want to hear covers. Songs they know, can dance to as well. That's all good. I personally would rather watch an original band. Hear original music. That is just me though. I love creativity.
Some stories behind the music.
Gem- High School girlfriend. Started out as "Jen" turned into GEM.
Angelic Being- the want of that one LOVE. Whole.
Pariah City- lovers kind of tune with some political type lyrics. (towards the end)
Are You There - Spiritual styled song.
Rum and Coke - An alcoholic type song.
Home - Military
Star in the Sky- I call this my written lyrical Wedding Song. OR should be.
